Vlora, a multinational city/Foreigners are employed in the tourism sector

In Vlora, almost all private entities now have at least one foreign citizen employed in the tourism sector.

It is precisely the hotel structures or bars and restaurants that, just like last year, will manage the influx of foreign citizens, mainly from Miami, during this upcoming season.

One of them is Mei (Mei Htoon), a 36-year-old from Myanmar, who has been living and working in the coastal city for 9 months now.

" In 2020, I left my hometown for Dubai, working in the same field, first as a receptionist, then as a physiotherapist, and then in management. But after 5 years there, I got bored and was planning to move somewhere in Europe, when all of a sudden I found myself in Vlora, after my boyfriend, based on his connections with Albania, found a job at this hotel for me ," said the 36-year-old.

Mei says that her experience in Vlora was something new, but with a very welcoming spirit.

Speaking about the working conditions, she remains satisfied and plans to continue her journey in the longer term.

"At first, when I came here, it was something new for me, a very different experience and I must honestly say that I love the people here, the truth is that I feel free here, I no longer want to be part of closed communities, I have been here for almost a year and I do not intend to leave for a long period, also my superiors, they are communicative and in their eyes I see the trust they have in me, that is why I want to continue working here ", said Mei.

Foreigners in Vlora are no longer a phenomenon that you only see during the summer season. Now, throughout the year, thousands of foreigners have become permanent residents in this city. And they are even adapting to the Albanian customs and language./ CNA
