Construction of the tower in Shkodra/ Religious communities: Property is being looted

2025-10-13 13:10:00, Qyteti im CNA

The construction of a 35-story tower in the center of Shkodra has brought reaction from religious communities. The Mufti of Shkodra, Imam Muhamed Sytari, and the head of the Orthodox Church, Father Nikolla Petani, held a meeting earlier this week.

The land on which the tower is being built is in litigation.

The mufti of Shkodra, Imam Muhamed Sytari, said that it is a major problem of recent decades.

The Imam expressed regret that they are trying to use this issue to sow religious hatred.

" In recent decades, we have had a major problem, which we follow as it develops. Institutions do not provide a solution to the property problem at the "Rozafa" hotel. We have no knowledge of the construction of the tower. This is unacceptable. We are engaged in various trials and papers. We have won the trials.

I regret that certain elements of the city are using this situation to sow religious hatred.

We call for respect for property. We do not retreat without winning our right. We are in the position of those who fight with what they have. We are dealing with the re-plundering of our property and the state allows this. Today, flagrant looting is taking place in the heart of Shkodra. 35 years after the fall of communism and look what we are talking about today. Protest? Everything in its own time, there is more than protest, within the legal framework , "said the imam.

Father Aleksandër Petani, parish priest of the Shkodra Orthodox Church, has stated that religion and property are being robbed by people they don't even know.

" Things are happening in our city that are killing us a lot. We have been in court for 35 years, we are so tired. Religion and property are being robbed by people we don't know. The Constitutional Court has given us justice ," said Father Aleksandër Petani.

The area where the tower is planned to be built has been the subject of disputes for more than two decades, with ownership claims by the Mufti of Shkodra, the Orthodox Church and the Laçaj family. Court proceedings are still ongoing./ CNA
