Vithkuqi at the festival/ Heritage, culinary and folk songs

In the heart of the mountain village of Vithkuqi, the golden colors of autumn became the backdrop for a celebration full of vitality and tradition today. Local residents, visitors and representatives of local institutions participated in the “Autumn Festival”, an activity that aims to promote Albanian culture, cuisine and heritage. In the center of the village, traditional music and dances mingled with the aroma of local dishes and craft exhibitions, creating a warm atmosphere of hospitality and cooperation.

The festival, organized by the Vithkuq Administrative Unit in collaboration with the village elders and local businesses, comes as an initiative to preserve cultural identity and promote tourism in one of the most picturesque areas of Korça.

The organizers say that this celebration has become an event that unites the community and promotes the values ??that make Vithkuqi special. For them, preserving tradition is not only a memory of the past, but a way to pass it on to the younger generations. Through their cuisine, local products and characteristic hospitality, the villagers show that Vithkuqi remains one of the most picturesque and beloved places in Korça.

" It has become a tradition that in Vithkuq, in the fall, the Autumn Festival is celebrated because Vithkuq is one of the most picturesque places in Korça and beyond. We gather all the Vithkuq residents and also people from all over Albania, lovers of the village, and we promote the values, history, traditional dishes, beauty and climate of the village. In our premises here is the meat of the shqerrës, the dairy from the very good natural pastures and other traditional ones like lakror with two noodles. It is an education from generation to generation from the parents of the grandparents and we are inheriting to our children, not only the dishes but also other parts of the Vithkuqer life ", said the organizer Romeo Rrapo.

The centerpiece of the celebration was also the folk dances and traditional costumes, which are proudly worn by the young people of the area. The dancers explain that the Vithkuq costume has special historical and cultural values, and that through these performances they keep alive the heritage that has been passed down from generation to generation. The old dances of Vithkuq, once learned by their grandparents, are today interpreted with the same passion by the young people who keep the spirit of this community alive.

" The costume is traditional for the Vithkuqi area. The entire community here preserves it, it is a gift from the church and we preserve the tradition by continuing with the Vithkuqi dances. We inherited the dance from our grandparents and then we learned it with our friends at school. We will perform the oldest and most beautiful dances of Vithkuqi ," declared dancer Romina Prifti.

An important part of the celebration was also the culinary arts. The housewives of the area presented traditional dishes that have been passed down through the years, from boiled pancakes and pies, to two-layered lakrori that is prepared in a pan and spread with butter after baking. For them, cooking is part of the Vithkuqar identity, a way to preserve the memories of the home and to teach the values ??of tradition to their children.

" Traditional dishes are boiled pancakes, fried pancakes, thin lakrori, pie, përvelaqe, pickles, etc. We have inherited the recipes from our elders. We cook them for both family and guests. We make lakrori with two noodles in a pan. We cook it by folding the dough, a thin noodle on top and bottom, we pour the dish and when we take it out of the pan we spread it with butter ," said housewife Rajmonda Shore.

The Autumn Festival in Vithkuq concluded a day full of liveliness, color and emotions. Amidst music, dance and the aroma of traditional dishes, the residents of this village proved once again that traditions are not just memories of the past, but a daily part of their lives and pride.

This activity, now a tradition, continues to gather Vithkuq residents, visitors and lovers of Albanian culture every year, transforming Vithkuq into a small center of cultural tourism and spiritual heritage.

Amidst history, nature, and hospitality, this celebration remains a beautiful example of how love for one's homeland can keep identity alive and inspire younger generations to continue the tradition with the same passion./CNA
