"New Strategy for Candidate Countries"/ Commissioner Kos: Center for

EU Enlargement Commissioner Marta Kos warned of the need to draft a strategy to protect candidate countries from external influence, hybrid threats, information manipulation and disinformation, especially during elections.

According to Kos, it is a center for Democratic Resistance, which will cover the 6 countries of the Western Balkans and will begin operating in early 2027.

Kos emphasized that the platform of this center is currently being drafted and will be discussed at the political level on September 4th.

"Candidate countries are being attacked simply because they have chosen EU integration and democracy. They are being offered capacity building to strengthen their resilience against hybrid threats, including information manipulation. We are working on the launch in early 2027 of a Center for Democratic Resilience covering the six Balkan countries, from the use of Artificial Intelligence in electoral processes to political campaigns, security and integrity of elections. The platform of this center is currently being drafted, which will be discussed at the political level on September 4 at the meeting of chief diplomats from the EU and candidate countries," Kos said./CNA
