Two-day NATO summit/ Rama travels to Ankara

Prime Minister Edi Rama will travel to Turkey today to participate in the NATO summit to be held in Ankara.

The main focus of this summit's discussions will be strengthening Euro-Atlantic security, long-term support for Ukraine, and increasing the defense capabilities of allies.

It is reported that part of the high-level delegation accompanying the Prime Minister are the Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, the Minister of Defense, the head of the State Intelligence Service, and representatives of the state-owned arms production company, KAYO.

This participation confirms Tirana's growing commitment to defense, as Albania aims to strengthen its role in the Alliance, even expressing the ambition to host a NATO summit in 2027.

As part of this summit, at noon on July 7, Albania will be one of the 10 founding countries that will sign the agreement to establish the Defense Bank.

This new financial mechanism is designed to support investments in the defense industry, military technologies and modernization of member states' forces. The initiative is considered one of the most important developments in the field of security, as it aims to facilitate the financing of strategic projects and innovation in the defense sector.

The summit is also expected to be attended by US President Donald Trump, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, European Council President António Costa, as well as leaders and ministers from Alliance partner countries. /CNA
