Protests amid tensions and injuries/ Berisha and Lamallari exchange accusations

The latest opposition protest has been accompanied by violent clashes that have left both protesters and law enforcement officers injured.

Immediately after the rally ended, senior leaders from both camps headed to the capital's hospitals to visit people receiving medical assistance, issuing harsh statements against each other.

The President of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha, stopped at the QSUT premises where he visited some of the MPs, both his close associates and injured activists.

During his statement to the media, Berisha made serious accusations against the police, emphasizing that violence was used against citizens and prohibited chemical substances were used.

He stressed that blinding sprays that are usually used against animals were used and, according to him, even Molotov cocktails were used against people, describing this as an unprecedented terror ordered by the government.

On the other hand, the Minister of Internal Affairs, Besfort Lamallari, accompanied by the head of the State Police, Skënder Hita, visited the five injured officers at the Trauma Hospital.

Minister Lamallari described violence against state uniforms as a criminal act and not as a form of protest.

According to him, the hand raised against the police is a blow to the law and the state itself, guaranteeing that Molotov cocktail attacks against law enforcement will receive the deserved legal response.

While the situation at the hospital remains under monitoring, the balance of the clashes speaks of opposition officials with eye and head injuries, as well as police officers with wounds caused by explosive devices.

The opposition has warned of continued revolt, while security institutions have stressed that they are documenting the events to hold the perpetrators of the violence accountable./ CNA
