"The progress report highlights SPAK's achievements"/ Gonzato:

The European Union Ambassador to Tirana, Silvio Gonzato, in a television appearance analyzed the justice reform in Albania and stated that this reform is the key to the country's European path. Gonzato said that the progress report highlights the achievements of SPAK and the EC appreciates the work done so far, but more is required.

The Ambassador said that the new justice bodies must do more, especially regarding the appointments of magistrates with integrity.

 

"Justice reform is Albania's key to the EU. The progress report highlights SPAK's achievements, but we want more in terms of confiscating the assets of organized crime, although we appreciate what has been done."

Transitions are always difficult and have a cost, so a medium or long-term strategy is needed. The institutions have been given independence and therefore will have political pressure, but they must be strong and manage the entire judiciary.

"The judiciary must set standards for the selection of magistrates with integrity. They must appoint the heads of courts, they have a lot to do, now the ball is in their court ," he declared./ CNA
