The biggest problem

The biggest problem
Journalist Lutfi Dervishi

In our small Albania, greater than the love for the homeland, is the talent we have to make peace with any problem.

We are the people who not only know how to survive, but also know how not to bother ourselves by looking for solutions. Our refrain? "Thessaloniki is downhill, as it was, it will be"

Traffic

Every morning, in the capital, at its entrance and exit, an artistic show takes place: cars that stop, move 5 cm, sometimes 10 cm and stop again. Traffic solution? It doesn't even matter. We have accepted it with stoic philosophy: "We will have traffic, and one day there will be so many cars on the road that not even a car will be able to move!" An ingenious vision to create the first permanent traffic museum.

flight

We started talking about the mass departure from the country. "They're gone, they're going and they're going to go," say the politicians, with a smile that defies even the Mona Lisa's smirk. There is nothing to worry about. It's just history repeating itself. We used to emigrate for bread, now to go to a country where the law rules.

CORRUPTION

Corruption is like brandy: we produce it in abundance and share it with everyone. "There has always been corruption," say experts, ministers and analysts. Like oxygen, it is necessary for life, corruption is the oil that lubricates the system. Fighting him would be like trying to stop breathing.

Public Works

Public works here are like Turkish soap operas: no one knows when they will end. But there is no need to worry! The refrain we hear not only calms us down, but also puts us to sleep: "It's time to rest." Of course, this does not mean that the road will end, it is a signal that it will drag on in the coming mandates. Let's not forget, procrastination is part of our cultural heritage.

retirees

With prices skyrocketing and pensions dragging, retirees are practicing a lower-calorie lifestyle. Meanwhile, the government that catches the rabbit with a cart finds the culprit: businesses that don't want to pay more taxes. After all, the problem can't be the system. The fault is always the other's.

Conclusion

Instead of fighting for solutions, we have found an easier way: peace with the problem. The country has become a fertile ground that cultivates the art of fatalistic acceptance. And as we say whenever we feel bad: "God makes it good..."

And since we have left the big jobs to God, until He remembers us, we console ourselves with traffic, corruption and running away. After all, as the modern Albanian philosopher has said: "our biggest problem is that we don't have a problem, no problem."
