We are not dirty, we are dirty!

I came across a post from the Municipality of Kukes this week, which shows the daily efforts of two workers with this machinery to clean, collect, the plastic waste floating on the surface of Lake Fierza.

The pictures show how successful they have been in this work.
Lake Koman is in the same condition.

If it weren't for the dams, i.e. the HPPs, this waste would have ended up in the sea, as happens with all other rivers.

This waste is dumped along the river's course in Albanian and Kosovo villages, on both branches of the Drini.

Below, in the basin of Lake Koman, the responsibility is entirely Albanian.
Together with dozens of volunteers, I have given 2-3 times a modest help for cleaning this lake. I have also wandered through villages, where there is no infrastructure for collecting waste. In every village they are thrown into streams and when it rains, they end up in the river-lake.

We are not polluted, as pollution is an industrial concept. We are dirty, and this is more serious, as it shows a lack of citizenship.

But can you accuse a villager in the middle of the mountains of throwing his garbage into the stream?
-Yes – some might say.
-No – some others say.
I say no too, for now.

There are no bins there. It's far away, the garbage truck can't get there, even if there was one. But if the government worked with them, guiding them on how to throw other waste that decomposes into small pits where it becomes fertilizer, while collecting the plastic and giving it to plastic recyclers, it could be a solution.

The problem is that this issue has not been addressed so far, neither by the municipality nor by the government. Not in Kukës, Puka, Shkodra, or anywhere else.

Now we are in the theater phase. We collect cans on the beach!
