Heavy metal vocalist and icon Ozzy Osbourne passes away

Ozzy Osbourne, the lead singer of the pioneering band Black Sabbath who became the husky, raucous voice of heavy metal, died this Tuesday at the age of 76, just weeks after his farewell show.

"It is with more sadness than words can express, we must report that our beloved Ozzy Osbourne passed away this morning. He was with his family and surrounded by love. We ask that everyone respect our family's privacy at this time," the family said in a statement.

In 2020, he revealed that he was suffering from Parkinson's disease.

Osbourne reemerged the following year as a solo artist with the following year's "Blizzard of Ozz" and "Diary of a Madman," both hard rock classics that spawned enduring favorite hits like "Crazy Train," "Goodbye to Romance," and "You Can't Kill Rock and Roll."

Osbourne was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame twice, once with Sabbath in 2006 and again in 2024 as a solo artist.

The original form of Sabbath reunited for the first time in 20 years in July 2025 in the United Kingdom for what Osborne said would be his final concert./CNA
