Three Albanians have been arrested in Italy on charges of possession of narcotics with the intent to sell them. According to Italian police, the three Albanians were caught red-handed during an operation that seized a total of 20 kilograms of narcotics, as well as 44,500 euros in cash.

During the operation, Bologna police officers observed a 20-year-old Albanian man leaving an apartment in Funo di Argelato and heading towards a Renault Clio vehicle, inside which was the other Albanian, 34 years old. The two were caught exchanging several wads of cash, while afterwards, the 20-year-old took a large white bag and placed it in another parked vehicle nearby.

The police immediately intervened and carried out a physical search of the two Albanians and their vehicles. Inside the white bag, officers found approximately 200 packages of cannabis, with a total weight of 20 kilograms. Meanwhile, five packages of cash, with a total value of 42,500 euros, were seized in the Renault Clio of the 34-year-old Albanian, while another 1,000 euros were found inside his backpack.

The searches continued inside the apartment in Funo di Argelato, where police identified a third Albanian citizen, 44 years old. Inside the house, 1 kilogram of marijuana, 179.66 grams of hashish, drug packaging materials and another 1,000 euros in cash, kept in the backpack of one of the three arrested, were found.

The three Albanians were arrested on charges of possession of narcotics with the intent to distribute them. Two of the arrested were remanded in custody, while one, a 20-year-old man, was placed under house arrest.

The operation is part of an effort to combat drug trafficking in the province of Bologna. The seizure of 20 kilograms of hashish and over 44,500 euros represents a serious blow to drug trafficking in the area. Investigations are ongoing to uncover other individuals involved in this narcotics trafficking network. /CNA
