Kalashnikov and 356 cartridges hidden in van/ 2 Albanians arrested on the

Two Albanian citizens were arrested last week after five Kalashnikov-type weapons and hundreds of cartridges were found hidden inside a van heading towards Italy.

The discovery was made by Italian police forces during a check on the Slovenian border in Sant'Andrea, within the territorial control zone also aimed at combating illegal trafficking.

The vehicle, with Albanian license plates, was carrying five passengers and two drivers, all Albanian citizens. During the document checks, the behavior of the two drivers raised suspicions: nervousness, impatience, and constant eye contact became more noticeable when their attention was focused on the luggage on board.

In particular, a suitcase with an abnormal weight for its size prompted the financial police to carry out a thorough search. Inside, between the body and the fabric cover, a layer of foam material was discovered hiding three Kalashnikov AK-47 assault rifles. The search of the vehicle continued, revealing two more rifles of the same type and five magazines containing a total of 356 rounds.

All the ammunition was seized, along with the mobile phones used by the two drivers. The drivers were placed under mandatory arrest for violating the arms control law, as defined by Section 1 of Act 895 of 1967. /CNA
