US police have charged a former gang leader with the murder of rapper Tupac Shakur in 1996. The New York-born hip-hop legend was shot four times at the age of 25 in Las Vegas. His murder remained a mystery for many years.
On Friday, US authorities charged Duane "Keffe D" Davis, 60, as the person who ordered the murder.
The police announce that the 60-year-old had planned the shooting of the well-known rapper, after his grandson was involved in a fight with Shakur in a casino.
Davis was arrested near his home in Las Vegas early Friday and will appear in court in a few days.
Greg Kading, a retired Los Angeles police detective who spent years investigating Shakur's murder, told The Associated Press he was not surprised by Davis' arrest.
"All other conspirators or direct participants are dead," Kading said.
Shakur, who was known to everyone as 2Pac, released his debut album in 1991. He was one of the most recognizable names in hip-hop, and his death was followed by several documentaries.
The artist has sold more than 75 million records worldwide, enjoying chart success with hits including "California Love," "All Eyez On Me" and "Changes."
He also found success acting in films such as Juice, Poetic Justice, Above The Rim, Gridlock'd and Gang Related.
