Ukraine reports a "record number" of drone attacks by Russia

The Ukrainian military claimed that Russia launched 90 drones overnight, calling it a "record number" of airstrikes.

The Air Force wrote on January 1 in Telegram that they have destroyed 87 Iranian-made Shahed drones, adding that air defense has intervened throughout the country.

One civilian was killed and nine others wounded during an attack in the Black Sea port city of Odesa, the head of the regional administration, Oleh Kiper, said.

The Ukrainian military said the drone strike in Odesa targeted port infrastructure.

"A number of drones were launched from the sea towards the coastal area," the army's Southern Command said.

This command also said that Russia had three warships in the Black Sea armed with Kalibr missiles.

Also, the university in Dubaljani of Lviv has suffered damage due to drone attacks.

During his New Year's address, President Volodymyr Zelensky thanked Ukrainians for resisting the Russian occupation and called on them to live by the rule: "either work or fight".

"Because the biggest terrorist organization in the world is against us," he said.

In a separate message for the New Year, Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal said that 2023 was "a difficult period" and the stability of the state "became stronger".

"We enter 2024 with confidence in a future victory and peace," he added.
