At least 23 people have been killed and dozens injured in a Russian missile attack on a humanitarian convoy in southern Ukraine, local officials have confirmed.

A survivor told the BBC that her boss had been killed in the attack.

"He had two children. I left the cafe to use the bathroom when it happened. I ran back and tried to find him. The cafe was destroyed, there were a lot of bodies around. Everything was very terrible," said Viktoriia Yosypenko.

The attack comes as Russian President Vladimir Putin prepares for a signing ceremony in Moscow to annex Zaporizhia along with Ukraine's Donetsk, Luhansk and Kherson regions.

Russia invaded Ukraine on February 24 and Moscow currently controls most of the Zaporizhia region, including the largest nuclear power plant, but not the regional capital./ CNA.al
