Storm Alice hits the Mediterranean / Extensive flooding in Spain, 18 injured

Severe weather warnings have been issued across eastern Spain as Storm Alice continues to batter the Mediterranean coast.

Heavy rainfall caused flash flooding in Catalonia over the weekend, turning roads in several tourist destinations into rivers of mud.

Spain's national weather agency, Aemet, issued an alert for parts of Valencia today, warning that up to 100 millimeters of rain could fall in just one hour.

So far, no fatalities have been reported, but 18 people have been injured, including one seriously, and the storm has caused significant travel disruption.

Rail services between Barcelona and Valencia were suspended along the Mediterranean corridor, affecting more than 3,000 passengers.

In the Balearic Islands, torrential rain and wind have caused chaos for air travel.

Aemet has warned that heavy rain and storms are expected to continue throughout the week, with warnings for coastal areas in Alicante, Valencia and Castellon./ CNA
