White House denies nuclear weapons speculation after Vance's statements

The White House has categorically rejected claims that the US administration is considering using nuclear weapons against Iran, following comments made by Vice President JD Vance during a visit to Hungary.

Vance said he expects a response from Tehran by tonight regarding a US ultimatum, stressing that "we have tools that we have not yet decided to use" and that the president is ready to act if Iran does not change course.

These comments were interpreted by some analysts and media outlets as an allusion to extreme options, including nuclear weapons. However, the White House immediately reacted through its official account "RapidResponse 47", calling these interpretations incorrect.

"Literally nothing the vice president said implies nuclear weapons," the response said, which also sharply criticized media speculation.

US officials emphasize that pressure on Iran remains part of the diplomatic strategy and that any possible action will be consistent with the national security interests of the US and its allies./ CNA
