Russia plans to evacuate residents of Kherson amid advancing Ukrainian forces

Russia has promised free shelter to residents of its partially occupied Kherson region, a sign that the advance of Ukrainian military forces along the war's southern front has worried the Kremlin.

Kherson is one of four regions that were illegally annexed by Russian President Vladimir Putin last month. The region's Moscow-installed leader, Vladimir Saldo, asked the Kremlin to organize an evacuation of four towns, citing incessant artillery attacks by Ukrainian forces.

Kremlini thotë se zhvendosja e ukrainasve në Rusi ose në territorin e kontrolluar prej saj, bëhet mbi baza vullnetare, por në shumë raste kjo është rruga e vetme që u ofrohet banorëve të zonave të pushtuara.

Sipas disa njoftimeve, një numër ukrainasish janë dërguar me forcë në të ashtuquajturat "kampet filtrimi", ku merren në pyetje dhe mbahen në kushte të vështira. Po kështu sipas një hetimi të agjencisë ‘Associated Press’ zyrtarët rusë kanë deportuar me mijëra fëmijë ukrainas në Rusi, një pjesë e tyre jetimë.

As Ukrainian forces continue their counteroffensive in the east and south of the country to retake occupied regions, Russian troops have withdrawn from some areas they took control of shortly after the offensive began on February 24.

Ukraine's advances on the ground and the Oct. 8 explosion of a key bridge linking Russia to Crimea have fueled domestic criticism of the Kremlin's handling of the war and increased pressure on President Putin to do more to to change the course of developments on the front in favor of Russia./ VOA
