Russian President Vladimir Putin has said that peace with Ukraine will only happen "when we achieve our objectives".

In his first marathon press conference since the start of the full invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, he answered questions from journalists.

Much of the choreographed event focused on what he calls "the special military operation in Ukraine."

He insisted that the situation was improving across the front line.

President Putin told Russians: "The existence of our country without sovereignty is impossible. It simply will not exist."

He added that Russia's economy was strong for a time of war, and the topic of conversation quickly shifted to Ukraine./ CNA
