VIDEO- Scary moment/ The elephant breaks the window of the van and asks for food

This is the moment a family was left in shock after an elephant blocked the road by approaching their van looking for food.

In the video published by the BBC, the elephant is seen coming out of the forest in Yala National Park and running towards the van where Kasun Basnayake and his family were in the van they had rented.

The elephant then stuck its tusk into the driver's window looking for food.

Kasun, from Perth, Western Australia, told the BBC: "He started sniffing around our feet for food and the driver told us to give him whatever we had, so I fed him my son's leftover sandwich."

"He told me to throw the rest out of the window, so I did and the driver then managed to speed away... Those sandwiches and chips probably saved our lives."
