After the successful landing on the moon, India will launch the mission to study

Days after India's successful mission to the moon, the country is now aiming for the sun.

According to the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO), the Aditya-L1 spacecraft will launch from the Sriharikota Spaceport on September 2 in an effort to study the sun and its effect on space weather.

Aditya, which refers to the sun in Hindi, will be placed in a halo orbit around the Sun-Earth system's Lagrangian point 1, where the sun can be observed without any obstruction, an ISRO report said.

According to NASA, Lagrangian points are positions in space where the gravitational forces of two large masses produce "enhanced regions of attraction and repulsion". The resulting force can be used to stay in position and reduce fuel consumption - and can be compared to "parking spots" for the spacecraft.

The mission will also allow the study of the solar wind, which could potentially cause disturbances on Earth, such as disrupting communication and navigation systems.

The Indian government had released a budget of $46 million for the mission in 2019, but has not released any updates since then. On Wednesday, India became the fourth country to land on the moon./ CNA
