After the retreat, Biden will address the nation for the first time

The American president, Joe Biden, will address the American people on Wednesday, for the first time since he withdrew from the race for re-election on July 21.

After withdrawing from the race for the presidential election in November, Biden offered his support to his deputy, Kamala Harris, to secure the Democratic nomination for the presidential election.

Biden wrote on X - which was previously known as Twitter - that during the speech from the Oval Office he will talk about "what awaits us and how I will get the job done for the American people".

His speech is scheduled for Wednesday at 20:00 local time.

Biden has been out of the public eye for several days as he recovers from a coronavirus infection at his home in Dellauer.

He has not spoken to the media since his decision on Sunday to withdraw from the presidential race, after facing calls from senior figures in his party and donors for weeks to withdraw.
