The Food and Veterinary Agency has announced that it has raised the level of control for shipments of poultry products from Brazil.

The rise of this level has come as a result of an announcement issued by the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock in Brazil, for several countries, among which Kosovo is located.

"After the announcement issued by the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (Mapa) in Brazil for several countries, including the Republic of Kosovo, for the temporary suspension of certification for exports of poultry meat and its products. After the outbreak of Newcastle disease (NCD) has been confirmed in the municipality of Anta Gorda, in Rio Grande do Sul. AUV immediately ordered the lifting of control measures for all cargo coming from Brazil. Which includes detailed control of each shipment. For detailed verification to ensure that the cargo is in accordance with the legal rules that exclude any doubt of danger after the new situation created by the outbreak of the NEW CASTLE disease", the announcement states.

AUV adds that the notification of the state authority of Brazil includes and recognizes the state entity of the Republic of Kosovo.

"In implementation of the international rules for the trading of poultry and their products, which guarantees transparency to the countries that import their products. Export certification is a bilateral agreement between countries and the Brazilian authority suspends the International Health Certificate in order to fulfill guarantees and product safety requirements. Among the products are fresh, cold or frozen poultry meat, which is sold in the countries of the region, including Kosovo. In implementation of the legal procedures and rules, the measures of the control level will be in accordance with the international standards of the trading of food products for management based on the situation".

The Food and Veterinary Agency adds that in cooperation and coordination with the agencies within the Integrated Border Management, the Kosovo Police and the Kosovo Customs, in full capacity will execute the measures according to the notification order, to prevent the entry of cargo from the areas afflicted with Newcastle disease.

“This disease is an infection of poultry and other avian species with the virulent Newcastle disease virus (NDV). It is not of concern for food safety or public health. Citizens as consumers need not worry. The disease is of a social-economic nature, which endangers only the sector of poultry farms".

During Friday, it was reported that the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock in Brazil has suspended the export of poultry meat and its products, after confirming the outbreak of a virus.

According to the Brazilian ministry, the suspension of the export of poultry meat affects 44 countries, and among them is Kosovo along with Albania and North Macedonia.

"In accordance with the international rules for the display of poultry and their products, the suspension of the temporary certification is carried out by Brazil, to guarantee the transparency of the Brazilian official service, to the countries that import the products. In this way, the suspensions are related to the area or region with a certification barrier, which varies from the suspension for at least 21 days"./ Monitor.al
