The volcano on Mount Etna erupts. Flights from Catania airport have been suspended following the volcanic eruption.

Flights will be suspended until 18:00 in the afternoon, said SAC, the management company at Catania-Fontanarossa airport.

The emission of ash from the Etna volcano and the spread of a cloud of volcanic ash in the atmosphere led to the suspension of all flights arriving and departing from Catania airport.

This was announced by SAC, the company that manages the airport, specifying that the closure of sectors B2 and B3 has been ordered. Operations will resume when the phenomenon subsides and after the ash has been cleared from the runways.

The suspension will lead to cancellations and diversions to other airports. SAC invited passengers to contact the airline for more information before going to the airport.

However, the eruptive activity is on the decline, with a faint emission of ash continuing from the summit craters.
