Power outage in Cannes/ Prosecutor's Office: Poles were sawed off, sabotage

Authorities in France have launched investigations into possible sabotage in connection with a power outage that plunged parts of the French Riviera, including Cannes, into darkness on Saturday.

The interruption, which came just hours before the closing ceremony of the 78th Cannes Film Festival.

The Grasse prosecutor told AFP that three of the four pylons of the high-voltage line supplying the city of Cannes were "sawed down" in an "act of sabotage".

Electricity in the area is gradually being restored.

Network operator RTE took the high-voltage line out of service to enable restoration work, causing a power outage in the city of Cannes.

The Cannes Film Festival ends today.
