A Serb is detained in the north of Kosovo

On Saturday, the Kosovo Police detained Sreqko Sofronijevic at the border point with Serbia, Bërnjak, for participating in the 2021 protests, organized due to the implementation of an action against the smuggling of goods.

As a result of the increase in tensions, the protesters clashed with the police officers, and dozens of people were injured on both sides, including Sofronijevic.

The deputy director of the Kosovo Police for the northern region, Veton Elshani, told Radio Free Europe that Sreqko Sofronijevic is accused of "violating the constitutional order" and that he has been detained for 48 hours.

Lista Serbe, the largest party of Serbs in Kosovo, which has the support of official Belgrade, has estimated that "terror against Serbs by the regime in Pristina is continuing".

"In that list, there are more than 80 people arrested in connection with the attack on the constitutional order, some of them doctors, businessmen, political representatives of the Serbian people, directors of institutions and public institutions", it was said in the reaction of the Serbian List.

This party has called on international representatives to "react urgently and prevent further oppression of the Serbs".

The Office for Kosovo in the Government of Serbia has also reacted to Sofronijevic's arrest, saying that his detention constitutes "the latest repression by the Kosovo Police"./ REL
