Dragon Ball creator dies

Akira Toriyama passes away at the age of 68. The cartoon series creator suffered an acute subdural hematoma, a type of bleeding near the brain.

Dragon Ball is extremely popular around the world and the comic series has also spawned cartoon and movie versions. Fans have paid tribute to the 68-year-old for creating characters that have become part of their childhood.

The Dragon Ball comic series debuted in 1984. It features the character Son Goku, who is on his quest to collect magical balls to defend the earth against humanoid aliens called Saiyans.

He died on March 1, and only his family and very few friends attended his funeral, according to a statement from the "Dragon Ball" website.
