Oil prices rise nearly $3 per barrel

Oil prices rose more than $4 a barrel this Friday.

Brent crude futures for September settlement, due on Friday, gained $3.29, or 3.1%, to trade at $110.43 a barrel by 11:05 a.m. (15:05 GMT) after hitting their highest level since July 5.

The active October contract rose $4.42 to $106.25.

West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude futures were up $4.85, or 5%, at $101.27 a barrel.

Both contracts were set for a weekly increase of around 7%.
