The Duchess of Sussex has slammed the "endless toxicity" of social media, revealing she was the target of "harassment and abuse" while pregnant with Archie and Lilibet.

Meghan was the keynote speaker at a high-profile panel marking International Women's Day at the annual SXSW festival in Austin, Texas. Meanwhile, Prince Harry was in the front row of the audience watching the event.

Meghan said people have "forgotten our humanity" in some parts of the media and digital realm.

"Most of the bullying and abuse I was experiencing on social media and online was when I was pregnant with Archie and Lily. You just think about it and you really wrap your head around why people would be so hateful - no it's bad, it's cruel", she said.

Meghan said she was concerned that women have so much hate for each other online, adding: "I can't understand it."

"If you're reading something horrible about a woman, why are you sharing it with your friends? If it was your friend or your mother or your daughter, you wouldn't do it. I think that's the part that's so lost now (with ) what's happening in the digital space and in certain sections of the media - we've forgotten to be human and that needs to change," she said. /CNA
