Minerals Agreement/ Zelensky: More security guarantees

Ukrainian President Zelensky said today that there are still no security guarantees in the mineral agreement between Ukraine and the US and that he wants more guarantees.

Ukrainian officials say a deal to share some of Ukraine's mineral wealth with the US has been agreed upon, and President Trump says he expects Zelensky to visit the US to sign the deal this week.

Zelensky, speaking in Kiev on Wednesday, says he still wants security guarantees and the initial agreement is more of a framework.

"I wanted to have a sentence for security guarantees for Ukraine and it is important that it is there," Zelensky said.

Zelensky said the deal could be a major success, but it will depend on talks with President Trump, in which the Ukrainian leader will insist that there must be security guarantees for his country.

Donald Trump said on Tuesday that he would need some form of peacekeeping in Ukraine in the event of a peace deal. /CNA
