The mandate of the European Union Rule of Law Mission in Kosovo (EULEX) has been extended until June 14, 2027.
This decision, taken by the Council of the European Union, underlines the continued commitment to supporting the rule of law in Kosovo. The extension comes with a significant financial allocation to ensure the continued operations of the mission.
The decision follows a strategic review of the mission's activities and its continued relevance. The previous mandate was set to expire on June 14 of this year, making this extension vital for continuity.
A budget of 170,866,980 euros has been allocated for mission expenses from June 2025 to June 2027.
EULEX continues its core activities of monitoring, mentoring and advising, with limited executive functions.
EULEX, established in 2008, plays a crucial role in Kosovo's justice system. Its main functions include monitoring, mentoring and advising, along with limited executive powers. The mission's presence has been a cornerstone in the development and strengthening of rule of law institutions in the region. /CNA
