Lista Serbe, the largest party of Serbs in Kosovo, has considered the voting process in the four northern municipalities, with a Serbian majority, for the removal or not of the municipal mayors to be a farce.

The Chairman of the Central Election Commission (CEC), Kreshnik Radoniqi, said on Sunday that the initiative to remove the mayors of northern municipalities in Kosovo has failed, since 50 percent plus 1 of the voters did not participate in this process.

This means that the current mayors - in Mitrovica i Veruu, Zveçan, Leposaviq and Zubin Potok - will continue their mandates.

According to Radoniq, a total of 253 people voted out of 46,556 citizens who had the right to vote.

Lista Serbe has called in advance for the process to be boycotted by local Serbs, on the grounds that the Government of the Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, has made the success of the process impossible.

According to her, "a high degree of unity of the Serbian people" was shown on Sunday.

In a press release, this party claimed that on April 21 it was proven that it is not the Serbian List and Serbia that are intimidating the Serbs, but Prime Minister Kurti and, as she said, his illegal para-police units, which according to the Serbian List have resulted with empty streets to the north.

The President of Kosovo, Vjosa Osmani, said on Sunday that through the boycott of the Serbs, "Serbia committed illegal interference in an election process of another country".

The initiative for the removal or not of the mayors was organized, as the international factor demanded the removal of the Albanian mayors from their positions, considering that although the process of April last year - when they won the elections - was legitimate, however, it it did not reflect the will of the citizens.

The April 2023 elections were organized after the resignations of the Serbs from the institutions of Kosovo.

Even in those elections, Lista Serbe, the main party of Serbs in Kosovo, boycotted the election process and called on local Serbs to do the same.

The European bloc has expressed regret for the decision of the Serbian List not to participate in the April 21 elections, even though it had previously declared positively for them./ REL
