The film Barbie has been banned in Kuwait and faces calls for a ban in Lebanon amid criticism in the Arab world about the film's social values, the BBC reports.
Lebanon's culture minister accused the film of "promoting homosexuality".
The film has grossed over $1 billion worldwide within weeks of its release.
Lafi al-Subaiei, the head of Kuwait's film classification board, said the board usually requests that film scenes deemed to violate his country's culture be cut.
But when they promote behavior that the state deems unacceptable, they are banned outright.
The film "promulgates ideas and beliefs that are alien to Kuwaiti society and public order," said a spokesman for Kuwait's Ministry of Information.
On Wednesday, Lebanese Culture Minister Mohammad Mortada asked the interior ministry to "take all necessary measures to ban" Barbie.
The film has also run afoul of censors elsewhere, including in Vietnam for featuring a map showing a disputed Chinese territorial claim in the South China Sea./ CNA
