Iranian Parliament Speaker: Negotiations with the US can only begin after two
Mohammad Ghalibaf

Negotiations with the United States of America cannot begin until Washington meets two key conditions.

This was stated by the speaker of the Iranian parliament, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, who some Iranian media say is expected to lead Tehran's delegation during the weekend talks in Pakistan.

In a post on "X", Ghalibaf said that a ceasefire in Lebanon and the release of frozen Iranian assets must be fulfilled before negotiations can begin.

"Two of the mutually agreed measures between the parties have not yet been implemented: a ceasefire in Lebanon and the release of frozen Iranian assets before negotiations begin. These two issues must be fulfilled before negotiations can begin," his post said.

The demand for the release of frozen assets has been a recurring issue in past negotiations, but this is the first time it has been raised as a precondition for future ceasefire talks.

Iran and mediator Pakistan claim that Lebanon, which has continued to be under Israeli attack, was included in the ceasefire that took effect this week, but US officials and Israel have denied the claim. /CNA
