The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Japan, Yoko Kamikawa, during the meeting with the Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, said that peace and stability are crucial for Europe.
Kamikawa said that her visit to Kosovo - which is the first visit - is for the purpose of achieving peace and stability on the European continent.
Before visiting Kosovo, she also stayed in Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina.
According to the announcement issued by Kurti's office, the meeting discussed the relations between Kosovo and Serbia and the dialogue for the normalization of relations mediated by the European Union.
"Prime Minister Kurti and Minister Kamikawa also discussed regional issues, including relations with Serbia and the dialogue process, within which Prime Minister Kurti said that the Basic Agreement has been reached, but which from the beginning and continuously has been openly violated from Serbia", it was said in the announcement.
Kosovo and Serbia have reached the Agreement on the path towards the normalization of relations last year. The agreement - even though it has not been signed, due to Serbia's rejection - is considered binding for the parties by the EU.
The agreement of 11 articles, among other things, foresees a level of self-management for the Serbian community in Kosovo and mutual recognition of state symbols, while asking Pristina and Belgrade to also implement all previous agreements reached during the dialogue. .
Minister Yoo Kamikawa's visit to Kosovo takes place at the time when Kosovo and Serbia this year mark the 15th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations.
In the meeting between Kurti and the Japanese minister, it was also discussed the ways in which the parties can deepen and strengthen their relations. Also, during a meeting with journalists in Kosovo, Japanese officials said that their country is considering the possibility of removing visas for citizens of Kosovo. Tokyo has already removed the visa regime for holders of Kosovo's diplomatic and official passports.
Meanwhile, in the meeting between Kurti and the Japanese chief diplomat about the possibility of investments from Japanese companies, separately in the renewable energy sector and railway infrastructure.
Japan provides support to Kosovo in many spheres through the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) in waste management, air pollution management and monitoring, and support for Kosovo's public television.
Japan also supports the defense sector, providing training for Kosovo Security Force officers.
During the day, Minister Kamikawa also met with the chief diplomat of Kosovo, Donika Gërvalla. As part of the visit, she is expected to meet with other officials in Kosovo./ REL
