Israel orders the evacuation of residents in several areas in northern Gaza

Israel issued an evacuation plan for Palestinians in areas north of Gaza that were the first to be hit when the war with Hamas began in October.

The order came after Hamas militants fired a series of rockets at Israel.

Army spokesman Avichay Adraee announced evacuation orders for several areas in Beit Hanoun and Beit Lahiya, two nearly destroyed towns where Israeli tanks are preparing to launch a ground offensive.

Meanwhile, the Palestinian group Hamas chose as its new leader Yahya Sinwar, the top official in Gaza who planned the October 7 attack on Israel.

The group's political leader, Ismail Haniyeh, was killed on July 31 in Iran in a suspected Israeli attack.

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken responded by stating that Mr. Sinwar has the power to ensure that a cease-fire agreement is reached between Israel and Hamas.

On Tuesday, President Joe Biden spoke with his Egyptian counterpart Abdel Fattah El-Sisi about hopes of reaching an agreement on a ceasefire and the release of hostages, as part of efforts to reduce tensions in the Middle East, which have increased after the Lebanese militant group Iran-backed Hezbollah confirmed that Israel killed a top commander in a rare attack in Beirut and confirmed the killing of leader Haniyeh.

The war in Gaza started after the Hamas attack on Israel where according to the Israeli authorities 1200 people were killed.

The Ministry of Health in Gaza, which is controlled by Hamas, says that the number of dead in Gaza as a result of the Israeli counteroffensive is approaching 40,000./ REL
