The American president, Joe Biden, has reacted regarding the candidacy proposed by Harris for vice president. Via a post on X, Biden writes that the pair "will be a strong voice for working people and the American middle class."

Kamala Harris made a "great decision" in choosing Gov. Tim Walz as her running mate, Democratic President Joe Biden said Tuesday.

The pair "will be a strong voice for working people and the American middle class," the US president said in a post on X. "They will be the strongest defenders of our individual liberties and our democracy," he added.

In mid-July, after intense pressure, Joe Biden withdrew from the race for the White House, giving his support to his vice president, Kamala Harris.

A little earlier, the Democratic candidate in the November presidential elections announced in a post on X that Walz had been chosen as her candidate.

"As a governor, professor and veteran, he has provided work for families as if they were his own. It's great to have him on the team. Now, let's get to work," Harris said, referring to Walz, in announcing his choice.

Walz, Minnesota's Democratic governor, is a National Guard veteran and former educator with political experience after serving 12 years in the House of Representatives.

It is "the greatest honor of my life," said Walz, in his first reaction to his appointment. “I'll give it my all,” he promised, saying, “Vice President Harris shows us the politics of the art of the possible. It reminds me a little of the first day at school."

The Democratic nominee's campaign team announced that Harris and Walsh will make their first public appearance together as running mate at a campaign rally in Philadelphia later today./CNA
