The court suspends the Government's decision to reduce salaries for judges

The Basic Court in Pristina has suspended the decision of the Government of Kosovo to reduce salaries for judges and prosecutors.

An announcement by this court states that the execution of the Government's decision, dated November 23, is postponed until this body takes a final judicial decision on this matter.

On November 29, the Association of Prosecutors of Kosovo sued the Government of Kosovo, and in addition to the request for the cancellation of this decision, it was also requested to set a temporary measure until the final decision is made.

Last week, the Government of Kosovo decided to reduce salaries for judges and prosecutors.

Më ketë vendim, pagat e tyre u kthyen në nivelin që ishin më 2017.

Në Agjencinë Kosovare Kundër Korrupsionit, figuron se paga vjetore e një gjyqtari para vitit 2017 ka qenë rreth 13 mijë euro, kurse paga vjetore aktuale është mbi 25 mijë euro.

Në ditën kur Qeveria e mori këtë vendim, Këshilli Gjyqësor i Kosovës (KGJK), vendosi që të reduktohet puna në gjykata si dhe të pezullohet bashkëpunimi në çdo aktivitet që organizohet, apo ku janë të pranishëm përfaqësues të Qeverisë së Kosovës.

KGJK-ja kërkoi anulimin e këtij vendimi, duke e quajtur në kundërshtim më Kushtetutën e Republikës së Kosovës.

Këshilli tha se vendimin e Qeverisë e konsideron si përpjekje për të ndikuar në punën e sistemit gjyqësor dhe për të zvogëluar pavarësinë e këtij sistemi.

In 2017, the then prime minister of Kosovo, Ramush Haradinaj, decided to increase the salaries of the governing cabinet by 100 percent.

With the increase in salaries for Government officials, the salaries of judges and prosecutors also increased.

In that period, this case was sent to the Constitutional Court, by then deputies of Vetëvendosje, who were in the opposition.

However, through a decision, this Court said that the salary increase is not against the Constitution./REL
