Zelensky's adviser: Over 13 thousand Ukrainian soldiers killed in the war

More than 13,000 Ukrainian soldiers have been killed since Russia launched its war in Ukraine, said Mykhailo Podolyak, an adviser to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

Such statements about the number of casualties are rare, and Podolyak's comments have not been confirmed by the state military.

In June, he said that 100 to 200 Ukrainian soldiers were dying a day.

Last month, the US military general, Mark Milley, said that about 100,000 Russian soldiers and 100,000 Ukrainian soldiers have been killed or wounded since the start of the war.

In a video address on Wednesday, the head of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, said that 100,000 Ukrainian soldiers have been killed so far in the war.

However, a spokesperson later clarified that von der Leyen had made a mistake and that the figure was for the dead and wounded.

The war in Ukraine started on February 24 of this year.

Russian President Vladimir Putin considers the war a "special military operation" to demilitarize Ukraine.
