Germany simplifies the procedure for obtaining ID and passport

Germany is making it easier for individuals to obtain identity cards, passports and residence permits, Shengennews.info reports. 

The new changes will come into effect in November 2023, following new regulations approved by the federal government on October 11, aimed at simplifying the application process.

Nancy Faeser, Germany's Federal Minister of the Interior, highlighted the country's digitization efforts to improve people's lives by saving time, reducing paperwork and simplifying administrative procedures.

Starting in May 2025, new official documents will exclusively contain digitally captured biometric photographs. These photos will be taken either by government authorities or photographers, while aiming to enhance security and identification processes, especially during border control checks.
