A 2-year-old child has died after being left on a school bus for eight hours in the scorching heat of 37 degrees Celsius.

The event took place in Sao Paulo.

The child's mother Kaliane Rodrigues says her son Apollo Gabriel Rodrigues was crying as he got into the vehicle because he did not want him to go to school that day.

He was the only one of the children who remained in the vehicle as he was allegedly forgotten by the driver and his wife who worked as a fatorino.

The 45-year-old driver, named locally as Flavio Robson Benes, discovered the child unconscious in a back seat of the vehicle.

He and his partner were interrogated by the police as part of an investigation to clarify the circumstances of the event./ CNA
