Sunday of protests/ Spaniards fill the squares against Pedro Sanchez's

Thousands of people gathered this Sunday around the Temple of Debod, in Madrid, to participate in a demonstration called against the government.

The protests come days after former Socialist minister Jose Luis Abalos and his former adviser Koldo Garcia were remanded in custody as part of a judicial investigation into an alleged corrupt scheme to buy masks during the pandemic.

Under the slogan 'Effectively: mafia or democracy?', the main opposition leaders denounced the government of Pedro Sanchez, whom they accused of allowing an unprecedented institutional deterioration.

"What happened to Abalos is not a single mistake. Sanchezism is political, economic, institutional, social and moral corruption. He should leave the government," said one of the politicians present at the protest.

The situation of Abalos, the first sitting national deputy to be left in custody, has had a strong political impact. The PSOE leadership expelled him from the party after learning of the measure issued by the National Court, although Abalos retains his seat as a non-member member of parliament./ CNA
