Part of Greece has been paralyzed since Sunday afternoon, after hundreds of farmers blocked the Athens-Thessaloniki national highway.
According to reports from Greek media, farmers are escalating their protests against rising production costs, low prices and delays in payments from the state.
In Larisa and specifically at the Nikaia intersection, both lanes of the Athens-Thessaloniki National Road are closed due to tractors that managed to break through the protective barriers and enter from a side road of the road.
During the protests, two farmers were injured, one a farmers' unionist. One of them was hit by police officers at the Nikaias intersection and a farmer at the Platykambos intersection.
The injured farmers were taken to hospital after claiming they were beaten by police officers. A police officer was also taken to hospital with injuries.
Agricultural unionists denounced the case, stressing that they will not leave the streets unless all their demands are met.
On Monday, at 5:30 p.m., a meeting is scheduled on the National Road near Nice by farmers to determine their next steps. /CNA
