Tik Tok star jailed for saying Muslim prayer before trying pork

A Muslim woman has been jailed for two years under Indonesia's blasphemy law for a video she shared on TikTok showing her reciting an Islamic prayer before tasting pork while visiting the tourist island of Bali.

Lina Lutfiawati, known as Lina Mukherjee on social media, appeared in court on Tuesday in Palembang County on the island of Sumatra.

The 33-year-old was found guilty of "disseminating information intended to incite hatred against religious individuals and specific groups," according to court documents.

In addition to the two-year prison sentence, the court fined the young woman $16,245. Her jail term could be extended by three months if she fails to pay the fine, the court added.

"I know I was wrong, but I really didn't expect this punishment," she said. 

Indonesia is the world's largest Muslim nation, with 231 million people, at least 93% of its adult population, identifying as Muslim.
