EU: Largest group of asylum seekers is from Venezuela

In November 2025, the number of applications to the European Union fell significantly from European citizens, but increased from non-Europeans.

According to Eurostat data, 54,825 non-European citizens applied for asylum for the first time.

By country of origin, most applications were made by:

Venezuela with 8,060 cases, the highest figure among foreign countries. Next come countries such as: Afghanistan with 5,125 cases, Bangladesh with 3,585 cases and Syria with 2,365 cases.

Member States where the most requests were registered:

The combination of four countries received 76% of all first-time asylum applications in the EU: Italy, Spain, France and Germany.

At the European Union level, there are 12.2 asylum requests for every 100,000 inhabitants, but in Greece this indicator was much higher, 42.4 per 100,000 inhabitants.

During November 2025, 1,370 children filed asylum applications for the first time. The majority of them came from: Somalia, Eritrea, Afghanistan, Venezuela and Egypt. /CNA
