A suspected drug trafficker and former associate of Pablo Escobar has been arrested in Medellin following an international operation, Spanish police said Saturday.

He is thought to be one of the main leaders of the Medellin cartel, once known as the world's largest drug trafficking syndicate. The name of the arrested person has not yet been released by the authorities. 

The group was a powerful and highly organized Colombian drug cartel and terrorist organization that was founded and led by Pablo Escobar.

The suspect was arrested in a joint operation by the National Police of Spain and the Directorate of Police Intelligence (DIPOL) of the National Police of Colombia.

The suspect, whose arrest warrant has been issued in Spain - is believed to be directly responsible for the Cartel's operations in Europe, acting as a link between the Medellín Cartel, the Italian Ndraguetta mafia group and the Mocro Mafia, which operates in the Netherlands ./ CNA
