Taxes announce new minimum and maximum wages, the change being implemented for

The General Directorate of Taxes has reminded that the minimum and maximum wages will increase from January 1, 2026.

The minimum monthly salary will be 50,000 lek, while the maximum salary for the purpose of calculating social contributions will be 186,416 lek.

The changes apply to employees, the self-employed and unpaid family workers, the tax authorities announced.

The minimum wage was increased by government decision from 40 thousand lek to 50 thousand lek, or 10 thousand lek more.

Increasing the minimum wage automatically leads to increasing the maximum wage.

As of mid-2023, the maximum wage, for contribution purposes, will increase by the same amount and at the same time as the minimum wage increases nationwide. As a result, the maximum wage will also increase by 10 thousand lek, reaching 186,416 lek. This was a relief for employers and employees with high salaries, since until 2023, the maximum wage increased by the same percentage as the minimum wage, significantly burdening both employers and employees.

This is the first time that the maximum wage has increased in value by the same amount as the minimum wage, and not in percentage.

In April 2023, when the minimum wage increased from 34 thousand lek to 40 thousand lek, or by 17.6%. After the increase in the minimum wage, from June the maximum wage also increased by 17.6%, from 149,954 lek to 176,416 lek.

So, while the minimum wage increased by 6 thousand lek, the maximum wage increased by about 26.5 thousand lek, significantly burdening both employers and employees.

Since then, the minimum wage has not been revised and this is the first change, when the new formula is being implemented./ MONITOR
