Vladimir Putin's ally warns of the 'end' of the UN

The fate of the United Nations may end up like that of the League of Nations if the powers of the permanent members of the UN Security Council are violated.

This was the warning of the deputy chairman of the Security Council of Russia, Dmitry Medvedev, an ally of the head of the Kremlin, Vladimir Putin.

He referred to a recent initiative by the US that proposed some "reform compromises" in the UN Security Council and moves to reconsider the status quo, writes the Russian news agency, Tass.

The League of Nations (1920-1946) was the first global organization created to ensure peace and cooperation among nations.

Despite certain achievements, the League failed to fulfill the tasks of collective security. The UN succeeded the organization after World War II./euronews
