The earthquake has hit the west of Afghanistan again, a few days after two other powerful earthquakes, which have left over 1,000 people dead.

The United States Geological Survey has said that the 6.3-magnitude earthquake was recorded near the city of Herat.

The depth of the earthquake was 6.3 kilometers. So far, there are no reports of victims.

More than 90 percent of those who died in the previous two earthquakes were women and children, the United Nations Children's Agency (UNICEF) said. Herat is Afghanistan's third largest city, and is located close to the Iranian border.

Afghanistan is often hit by earthquakes, especially in the Hindu Kush mountain area, as it lies in the Eurasian and Indian tectonic zones./ Rel
