Job vacancies, in the EU managers dominate, here manual labor dominates

Our country's economy generates unskilled labor, while in the European Union "Sales, marketing and development managers" recorded the highest job vacancy rate (8.4%), ahead of "Production workers" and "Other office support workers" (both 7.3%), according to Eurostat data.

According to national data from the National Employment and Skills Agency (NESA), in 2024 over 27% of job vacancies were for elementary occupations. According to the nomenclature of occupations, this group includes cleaners, door-to-door or street vendors, and some occupations that use mostly physical strength instead of machinery. Elementary occupations usually do not require experience.

In EU countries according to Eurostat, after managers and factory workers, the other categories "Other sales workers" (6.1%) and "Associated artistic, cultural and culinary professionals" (6.0%) complete the top 5 occupations with the highest vacancy rates.

In Albania, according to internal data, the most demanded professional categories by the market, referring to data administered by AKPA, for 2024 were elementary professions with 27%, craftsmen and artisans with 23 percent. This category also uses physical strength, but also tools and machinery, sales and service employees, as well as industrial employees with 18.9% and 11.7%, respectively.

Eurostat noted that labor shortages are among the main challenges facing EU industry: “Europe is close to full employment. Instead of millions of people looking for jobs, millions of jobs are looking for people. Labor and skills shortages are reaching record levels – both here and in all major economies.”

The increase in job vacancies in Europe further pushes organized emigration from Albania to it, as is already happening. Albanian youth are being educated and trained for global job markets since childhood because the economic model in our country is not offering opportunities to keep them in dignified jobs.

According to Eurostat, in EU countries, some professions, such as healthcare workers and teachers, despite not appearing on the job vacancy table, are also facing recruitment difficulties./ Monitor
